Sexual and reproductive health is a human right. Yet almost everyone of reproductive age—some 4.3 billion people—will lack at least one essential sexual or reproductive health service over the course of their reproductive years. The Guttmacher-Lancet Commission report, “Accelerate progress—sexual and reproductive health and rights for all,” puts forth a bold agenda for achieving universal sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). At the heart of this agenda is a new and comprehensive definition of SRHR, and a proposed package of essential sexual and reproductive health interventions. The Commission—comprised of 16 multidisciplinary experts from around the world—makes clear that achieving sexual and reproductive health relies on realizing sexual and reproductive rights. Join the Wilson Center’s Maternal Health Initiative and the Guttmacher-Lancet Commission for a discussion on how policymakers, health practitioners, educators, and advocates can implement the Commission’s recommendations to achieve sexual and reproductive health and rights for all.
