This is an abbreviated version of Benjamin Bidlack’s presentation “The Hero’s Journey in Modern Life,” given at the prestigious Mindshare LA TEDx conference in Los Angeles. Benjamin starts his talk on Joseph Campbell’s landmark 1949 book “The Hero With a Thousand Faces” and how all of the great stories throughout history have common stages, scenarios and characters. He then walks through how those ancient universals and stages apply to our modern lives, here and now, whether it’s a party you were invited to, or achieving long-term dreams. Bidlack is the former Chief Strategy Officer at FutureBrand Southeast Asia, and formerly the Executive Director of Brand Strategy at Interbrand. He has held senior strategy positions at Booz & Co. and Accenture after earning an MBA from Stanford's Graduate School of Business. Where possible, he looks for ways to apply ancient mythology and storytelling elements to magnify the power of modern brand analysis and strategy development for some the world’s largest and best-known brands.
