Goldberg has long felt that the writing process should be intuitive and uncensored. NaNowWriMo encourages aspiring writers to quit procrastinating and unleash their creative energy. At the end of the month participants finally know that they can finish something. This, Goldberg insists, is a valuable lesson, even for seasoned writers like her. What matters, she says, is not "the success of my books, but that I keep showing up."
