Unfulfilled Career



There are a variety of professions which require a long, disciplined dedication of education and practice, where advancement can only be made through progressive achievements. These are true careers, whether as a doctor or soldier, lawyer or professional athlete. But when we become stuck in—or forcibly removed from—a desired career path with no discernable way forward, we can become mired in anger, depression, self-doubt, and frustration. We can feel like failures—unable to achieve our ultimate goal—or attacked, as if the universe is out to get us. Have we truly wasted our lives to get to this point, but no further? Confronting our struggles with an unfulfilled career often starts with examining our work is tied to our sense of identity and what the ultimate purpose of all our life’s effort is.
