Shared-Death Experience

A shared-death experience (SDE) is a profound experience in which one or more people—loved ones, caregivers, or those who happen to be nearby at the time—share in a dying person’s transition to the initial stages of an afterlife. Reports by those who have experienced SDEs typically include the imagery of a journey, seeing or sensing dying patients moving toward what is often characterized as a transcendent light. These reports tend to be similar to personally experienced Near-Death Experiences (NDEs).
