Whether we are behaving in a manner unexpected or unappreciated for our presenting gender, or we simply identify as a gender that is unaccepted by others in our community, there are many situations in which each one of us is treated negatively because of our gender. Understanding the unwritten gender rules of our communities and why they are harmful is the first step in confronting them within ourselves and with each other.
