Animal communication describes the art of finding a nonverbal language through which we can understand animals, usually pets. People who work in the field say it works using a kind of telepathy (or “distance feeling”), which is the ability to see what is in someone else’s mind, to feel their feelings, or to communicate with them without using words or other physical signals. Anyone in close contact with animals knows they have their own methods of communication, whether for basic responses of fear or pain or for more advanced forms of consciousness, such as compassion or playfulness. Animal communicators work to bridge our worlds, helping us determine what the animals in our lives need or are trying to tell us.
