Pope Francis

Pope Francis (born Jorge Mario Bergoglio) is an Argentinian Roman Catholic priest who was elected head of the Roman Catholic Church in 2013. He was the first Jesuit pope, the first pope from the Southern Hemisphere, and the first pope since the eighth century from outside Europe. Francis has been noted for his humility, emphasis on God’s mercy, concern for the poor, and commitment to interreligious dialogue. He is an outspoken critic of unbridled capitalism and free market economics, consumerism, and overdevelopment, and he advocates taking action on climate change.
