John Wooden (1910–2010) was an American men’s college basketball coach and author who focused on building character in his players at least as much, if not more so, as he focused on winning games. He led his teams to eleven NCAA titles, all the while encouraging his players to graduate and maintain high academic standards. His philosophies on leadership, integrity, and working together for a common purpose remain in wide use—in sports, self-development, and the business world.
